ECB lines up network providers for digital euro pilot
The trial of a possible public digital currency is scheduled for the second half of 2027.

The European Central Bank published the result of its network procurement on 30 October. It selected two providers, with the first-ranked provider’s contract initially covering connections for the digital euro trial.
The ECB plans a 12-month pilot involving payment firms, selected merchants and staff from the Eurosystem. Its aim is to test how people might use the system in everyday payments. The decision on issuing a digital euro is separate from this technical work.
