Democrats win control of both houses of US Congress
The US midterm elections give Democrats majorities in the House and Senate, reshaping the balance of power in Washington.

The Associated Press and Reuters reported that Democrats took control of both chambers in the 3 November vote. Republicans had entered the election with narrow majorities. Some individual races were still outstanding as the overall result became clear.
The incoming Congress will have more room to question the administration, set committee priorities and influence spending. For Europe, the implications will depend on the legislation and budget decisions that follow, including how Congress approaches transatlantic defence and trade.
